Harbor Regional Health is dedicated to supporting the Nursing Assistant - Certified profession by ensuring that its newest members are given the tools needed to succeed.

Our NAC Residency Program is designed to assist new graduate nurse assistants in a supportive, nurturing environment.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the residency program, NACs will be able to:

• Safely provide care for patients in the Acute Care setting.

• Prioritize patient care based on acuity or urgency of patient’s need.

• Recognize and respond to emergency situations.

• Perform vital signs, record, and recognize normal ranges.

• Assist patients with activities of daily living.

• Accurately measure and record intake and output.

• Collect specimens.

• Understand basic skin integrity and ulcer formation and report potential skin problems to RN.

• Apply protective restraints under the direction of the RN.

• Communicate effectively with individuals and groups.

• Be a part of the nursing team.

What does the Residency consist of?

During the NAC Residency program, the topics listed below will be conducted in classroom settings, skills lab, and on-the-unit training:

• General hospital orientation

• Meditech training

• Pressure points

• Manual BP skills

• Vital sign skills

• Admission process

• Discharge process

• Weight

• Belongings

• Drains

• Intake and Output

• Lift training

• Teamwork and communication

• Bedside eyes

• Stress and time management

• Code blue and rapid response

• BLS skills

• AVADE training

Upon completion of the NAC Residency Program, you will continue to receive clinical support from your management team, mentor, preceptor, and other members of the healthcare team.

If selected for the residency program, you will be hired by HRHCH in a permanent position. During the program, you will be expected to complete 36-40 hours of orientation/work per week. Upon completion of the residency program, you will be expected to accept the position you are offered (the FTE position will depend upon the open positions available). You will also be expected to sign a minimum of a one (1) year employment commitment in the department in which you are hired.

We are now accepting applications for our NAC Residency Program. All materials must be received by our Human Resources department by the date indicated on the IMPORTANT DATES form.

  • Complete the HRHCH application for employment.

  • New graduates: supply 2 references: 1 instructor, and

  • 1 other (previous employer, coach, clergy, etc.) using the graduate residency NAC candidate reference forms.

  • Experienced NACs: supply 2 work references:

  • 1 supervisor, 1 work peer.

  • Check with individuals providing references to ensure that they have been returned to HRHCH Human Resources by the deadline.

  • New graduates must complete the candidate work preference form.

  • Ensure all documentation is completed and submitted to Human Resources.

  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant program.

  • National exam completed for new graduates.

  • Active WA State Nursing Assistant-Certified licensure status.
