SERVICES

Detoxification and Stabilization Program

(Withdrawal Management)

When an individual arrives at HarborCrest, they are welcomed by registered nurses who specialize in substance use disorder treatment. The admission process includes a comprehensive medical and clinical evaluation to determine the appropriate level of care based on medical necessity.

Our primary goal during detoxification (also referred to as Withdrawal Management) is to support comfort and safety. Individuals are closely monitored throughout this phase, and additional safety measures—such as alarms or fall-prevention beds—are used when clinically indicated. Once medically cleared by our physicians, the stabilization phase begins.

The length of stay is individualized and determined by ongoing medical assessment and necessity.

 Stabilization and Treatment Engagement

During the stabilization phase, individuals participate in an intensive treatment program designed to increase insight, promote engagement, and support early recovery. Treatment includes group therapy and evidence-based approaches, including 12-step–informed practices and other therapeutic models that encourage reflection, skill-building, and personal responsibility.

Care needs are reviewed daily to ensure treatment continues to align with each individual’s medical and clinical presentation.

Evidence-Based Programming

HarborCrest utilizes evidence-based practices that address a wide range of relapse prevention and recovery-support topics. Programming includes educational groups, skill-building sessions, and presentations by professionals with expertise in specialized subject areas. Guest speakers, including alumni of the program, may also share lived experience to support motivation and connection.

Our approach emphasizes respect, collaboration, and individualized care—supporting each person as they prepare for the next step in their recovery journey.

Substance Using Pregnant People (SUPP)

HarborCrest is contracted with the Washington State Health Care Authority to provide specialized, compassionate, and evidence-based treatment for pregnant people who are experiencing substance use disorders.

Our multidisciplinary team supports participants in developing a healthy, stable lifestyle that promotes recovery, personal well-being, and preparation for parenthood. Care is delivered in a trauma-informed, person-centered manner that recognizes the unique medical, emotional, and social needs of pregnancy.

There is no cost to eligible pregnant people residing in Washington State for participation in the Substance Using Pregnant People (SUPP) program. When needed, HarborCrest can assist with arranging transportation to our facility from anywhere within the state.

Treatment within the SUPP program consists of a 26-day residential level of care, with a focus on medical stabilization, restoration of health, personal growth, and long-term recovery planning. The program is designed to support both the pregnant individual and their developing baby by emphasizing safety, stability, and continuity of care.

Medication Options at HarborCrest

HarborCrest offers evidence-based medications as part of both withdrawal management and ongoing treatment for substance use disorders. These medications can play a critical role in supporting stability, reducing cravings, and improving long-term recovery outcomes.

For individuals with Opioid Use Disorder, HarborCrest utilizes buprenorphine-based medications, including Suboxone® and Subutex®, during medical detoxification and, when appropriate, as part of ongoing Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD). These medications are well-supported by research and have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of relapse and overdose while supporting long-term recovery.

HarborCrest also offers Vivitrol®, a monthly extended-release injectable medication, as a treatment option for individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder. Vivitrol® works by reducing cravings and blocking the effects of opioids. It is administered by a Primary Care Provider or an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) following discharge, when clinically appropriate.

Medication options are discussed collaboratively with each individual at the time of admission to ensure treatment decisions align with personal goals, clinical needs, and informed choice.

Expanded Inpatient Medical Detox & Stabilization Services

Effective August 5, 2024, HarborCrest expanded its Inpatient Medical Detox and Stabilization program to better serve individuals with complex treatment needs.

We now welcome individuals who:

  • Are established with an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP),

  • Have been inducted on methadone, and

  • May be using additional substances alongside opioids.

This expansion allows HarborCrest to provide coordinated, compassionate care while maintaining continuity with existing treatment providers. By supporting individuals who are already engaged in methadone treatment, we are reducing barriers to care and improving access to medically appropriate detox and stabilization services.

Outpatient Services

HarborCrest is pleased to share an expansion of our outpatient services designed to improve access to timely, person-centered care. Effective April 1, 2024, outpatient operational hours begin at 7:00 a.m. for substance use disorder assessments.
